The first ever little zine to make its way out of my shitty home printer. I really had to compartmentalize and suppress the designer in me to get this finished — “done is better than good” is the mantra I continue to carry with me through these zine projects.
As in all things, compounding interested has helped them get better and better over time. I had grandiose plans to continue a series in this manner, I guess I still might, but most projects since have been less “comprehensive”. In fact, I think I’ve enjoyed the challenge of trying to fit as much possible on to a single sheet of paper. If I were to do an extended series like this again, it would either be about masa or pizza, two topics I now know my way around well enough to drone on about for a few pages.
My first foray into “recipe writing”, which is still not really a thing I have any confidence doing. I’m hoping that after enough repetition maybe it will come more naturally, but I feel very attuned to understanding the nuances of a well written recipe, as someone with a lot of cookbooks and a professional history of making sure things work.
